Garmin Approach Golf Range Watches

Posted by Bravado Living On April - 20 - 2012

You can smell it already. Fresh cut grass. White leather gloves. Musty green jackets.

Golf season is upon us.

It’s a little known secret that one of the quickest ways to improve your scores is to get accurate reads for each one of your clubs. How many times have you hit a beautiful shot, only to completely fall short of the green? Even worse, you completely blow past the pin and have it to chip it back without a clear line of site.

How many shots could you save per round  if you had just landed it on the green?

How many more winks and cocky smiles would you give you friends as you casually walk back to you cart, quietly thinking to yourself “How did I just do that?!”

Well, this season, we have a trick up our sleeves for you. The Garmin Approach S1 and S3 line of watches.

Garmin Approach S3

Pre-programmed with 27,000 courses from around the world, these watches give you precise and accurate reads to the green whether you can see the pin or not. It even tells you the yardage to doglegs, hazards, and other important greens features so you can stay on top of each hole.

The watches also track how far you hit each club so you get increasingly accurate club lengths.

Additionally, the Garmin Approach doubles as a scorekeeper so you can keep track on how much you improve over the season, how you played that particular hole last week, and remind you of how to best approach the hole this time around. It even keeps track of how long it takes you to finish each round, and an odometer so you can see how far you’ve walked.

Personally, we love the discrete styling that deserve to be worn every day. It sure beats pulling out a Laser Range Finder every hole. A simple glance at the wrist, and you know immediately which iron to grab.

The best approach is to bring a ridealong GPS or phone app to get a layout of the course the first time you play, and then all you need is one of these bad boys, and you’re set for the rest of the season.

We have heard that the S1 suffers in battery life and won’t last 36 holes, but that problem should be fixed with the S3. Regardless, for one round of golf, there’s no better way to track your yardage and instill confidence in your game.

Enjoy, and hit ‘em long and straight.

Roku 2

Posted by Bravado Living On August - 29 - 2011

Now that Apple has stopped TV rentals, it really helps makes the decision easier when buying an internet TV portal.. If you’re tired of creeping cable costs, surprise hidden fees, and terrible commercials, well so are we.

For those ready to clip the cable clip, one box worth exploring is the Roku 2.

It’s been a while since Roku last updated its set-top Internet streaming box, and that means its sequel will need to be just that much better than its predecessor. The Roku 2 ($60-$100) more or less lives up to the task. Available in three separate Wi-Fi-connecting models — the HD, XD, and XS — it offers features like support for Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, NBA Game Time, Pandora, Rdio, Flickr, Vimeo, and more, up to 1080p HD video output, new gaming capabilities thanks to Bluetooth for connecting the motion-control gaming remote, a microSD slot for additional game storage, and must-have casual gaming title Angry Birds pre-installed on XS units.

We love the ability to stream from so many different sources rather than being limited to one portal. Additionally, the cost is the equivalent of one cable bill. Make the plunge, step away from the drone of endless TV, and take control of your life.

Super Agent Knife

For everyone who wasn't born with a giant claw.

For everyone who wasn't born with a giant claw.

I’m big on knives and I really like a good number of Spyderco products, but one in particular stands out as just the most bad ass. The Spyderco Civilian is that bad ass knife. It reminds me of another Spyderco product, the Harpybut the Civilian is longer and more wicked looking. Spyderco was actually approached in the 1990s by a specialized branch of U.S. law enforcement about making a knife for their undercover agents, allowing them to carry weapons in situations where a gun would have been too noticeable.
